The Zimbabwe Government has struck a deal with Zimplats, the platinum mining company. An agreement has been reached on the production of a revised indigenisation plan for Zimplats Private Limited.

It was announced in a joint statement by the indigenisation minister Saviour Kasukuwere and Zimplats chairman David Brown, that the new plan would be submitted to the government by November the 15.

“The parties met on September 12 and agreed on a process that will result in the production of a revised indigenisation implementation plan for Zimplats Private Limited, in line with the country’s indigenisation and economic empowerment legislation,” the statement said.

“There is a sense of understanding and realisation that Zimplats is a very important company in the country and that it can play a very important role in the economy moving forward,” Brown told a news conference.

“The minister also appreciates that and works on the basis that we want to come up with a win-win solution for both the country and the company.
“We have agreed a process will now be working on that process and we will submitting a revised plan by November 15.???

Kasukuwere said Zimplats had “clearly indicated their commitment to ensuring that the empowerment process programmes succeed in the country.”

Foreign firms have until September 25 to present their plans to government on how they will comply with the new law requiring them to sell over 50 percent of the company to local Zimbabweans
